How to Make Your Dentist Proud

Posted .

Are you one who dislikes disappointing your dentist? If so, you are not alone. Many people wish they could attend their appointments with a strong and healthy smile, making their dentist proud. However, sometimes it is very difficult to do so, especially when you do the following things:

Use a hard-bristled toothbrush
One of the worst things you can do for your smile is use a hard-bristled toothbrush. This is because the hard bristles tend to wear down the tooth enamel and irritate the gums. In fact, they can irritate the gums so much that the gums begin to move away from the teeth. So, the best thing to do is use a soft-bristled toothbrush. This brush can safely and effectively clean your smile all while caring for your gums.

Refuse to floss daily
If you do not floss each day, the plaque and food particles will remain stuck in your smile. Therefore, you will have a higher chance of falling victim to tooth decay and gum disease. If you are flossing daily, it’s important to make sure you are flossing the correct way.

Refuse to wear a mouthguard
If you are an athlete, it’s best to protect your mouth with a mouthguard while you play your sport. Mouthguards reduce your chances of oral injury, whether it’s your teeth getting chipped or knocked out or your bite becoming misaligned. So, please remember to wear a mouthguard.

Share utensils
It’s strongly recommended to refrain from sharing your utensils and toothbrush with others. If you share these things, you can transfer harmful bacteria and germs that often cause tooth decay.

Grind your teeth
Teeth grinding is a habit that can easily destroy your teeth if you are not careful. It can wear down your chompers and fracture them if you continue to grind. The hard part about this habit is that it generally occurs at night. So, if you tend to grind your teeth while you sleep, it’s best to wear a special mouthguard.

If you want to make Dr. Paul Eberhard proud, our Mockingbird Dental Associates team asks you to avoid the mentioned habits. These things can severely harm your smile if you let them, and it’s tough to have a strong and successful oral health if you don’t take proper care of your teeth, gums, jaw, and underlying bone.
