Dental Crowns: What To Expect

Posted .

It looks like it’s time to get a crown on your tooth and we want to make sure you are prepared for your appointment. We will give you a step-by-step guide on what you should expect when your crown is placed.

One of the first things you should know is that placing a crown typically happens within two separate appointments. In your first appointment, our dentist will numb the tooth and shave around the surfaces of the tooth, this allows for room for the crown to be placed.

In the same appointment, the dentist will make an impression of the tooth to make sure your crown is personalized to your teeth. These impressions will then be sent to the lab where your crown will be created.

In your second visit, your dentist will check the crown and adjust it if needed. After the final adjustments have been made, the crown will permanently be cemented into place.

After your appointment, it is crucial to keep your crown cleaned and maintained properly. Remember that even though the crown protects the tooth from decay, it will not protect your gums. Keep your gums healthy with a high-level fluoride paste and by brushing your teeth twice-a-day.
